3 Ways to Prevent

Passing a kidney stone is an extremely painful process. Fortunately, there are ways to help prevent them so you may never have to experience them.

Drink plenty of water. Dehydration can cause kidney stones – so drink up! You should have a minimum of 60-64 fluid ounces per day. You can tell if your body is dehydrated through fatigue, light-headedness, dark urine, dry cough, and flushed skin.

Limit your sodium intake. Also stop adding additional salt to your food. This will reduce the amount of calcium in your urine which cause stones to form. Processed meats, convenience foods such as rice mixes and canned soups, all contain high amounts of sodium.

Eat more citrus. Lemons, limes, and oranges are all high in citrates which help prevent kidney stones.
