PCR TESTING FOR SARS CoV-2
PPMA is offering a PCR test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the virus that causes COVID-19. This test will be offered only to
people who are current PPMA patients who require the test for travel or surgical procedure.
We will not be testing any patients who have symptoms of COVID-19 (including but not limited to fever, loss of smell and/or taste, body aches, cough). Please contact the office for information on at-home COVID testing.
What is a PCR Test?
A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test is performed to detect genetic material from a specific organism, such as a virus. The test detects the presence of a virus if you are infected at the time of the test. The test could also detect fragments of virus even after you are no longer infected. The PCR test is the “gold standard” test for diagnosing COVID-19 because it is the most accurate and reliable test. A positive test means you likely have COVID-19. A negative test means you probably did not have COVID-19 at the time of the test.
What Should You Do?
You’ll need to make an appointment for this test. When you arrive, you’ll see your physician for a brief office visit and then the medical assistant will perform a nasal swab. The sample will be sent to Quest Diagnostics and within 24-48 hours you’ll be notified of your results.
PPMA will bill your insurance for the swab and the office visit, any portion not payable by your health insurance will be your responsibility and any balance must be paid in full.
