What’s in an Apple-Kale Smoothie?
Apples are nutrient-dense fruit and kale is a nutrient-dense vegetable. This means that they are high in nutrients and relatively low in calories. Nutrient-dense foods contain vitamins, minerals, complex carbohydrates, lean protein, and healthy fats. That’s the foundation of the Apple-Kale smoothie!
Apples contain fiber, which can slow digestion, making you feel fuller after eating. This can help with acid reflux. Apples have been credited for helping your lungs, heart, asthma, bone health, weight loss, immune system, and gut. Remember to eat your apples with the skin on to get all these great benefits.
Kale is a cruciferous member of the cabbage family. One cup of raw kale (~67 grams or 2.4 oz) contains vitamins A, K, C, and B6, plus manganese, calcium, copper, potassium, and magnesium. Pow! Kale’s powerful antioxidants help to counteract oxidative damage caused by free radicals in your body, plus so much more!
